Michael and Jackie met near Beaver County, PA where most of her family lives before moving to Erie, PA. Michael’s background was in human services before he became an insurance agent. Jackie’s background was in veterinary practices. Their family started with fur babies: 2 dogs and 2 cats.
In May 2020, their lives changed forever with the birth of their son, Oliver. After lots of fertility treatments, Oliver was the answer to prayer that they had for years. Oliver’s journey wasn’t easy though. He spent his first 3 weeks of his life in the NICU for struggling with basic motor skills like swallowing. These struggles led to him receiving his first occupational therapist at the age of 6 weeks old (she would continue to support him until his 3rd birthday). Oliver continued to need more services as he grew older and was diagnosed with profound autism.
While these struggles certainly shaped Michael and Jackie, they also shared joy when Oliver was in environments that allowed him to thrive. One of the places he excelled most was We Rock the Spectrum! While he often elopes and struggles to interact with peers, We Rock has been a place that he can play freely. This was most evident on his 3rd birthday when he enjoyed over an hour of focused play (a big deal for Oliver)!
Michael and Jackie’s family will be growing soon as well with a baby girl due on December 2025. They are excited to serve their community and provide a safe space for ALL kids in Erie.
